In a demonstration of growing cultural solidarity and traditional diplomacy between neighbouring communities, the Lord Mayor of Okija, Chief Dr. (Sir) Frank Obi Anyijiofor (Uduakomiri Okija), on Monday, July 6, 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, at the Asagba’s Palace in Asaba, Delta State.
The visit, described by observers as a significant royal engagement, highlighted the enduring historical, cultural, and social bonds between the people of Okija in Anambra State and Asaba in Delta State. It also reaffirmed the commitment of both traditional institutions to promoting unity, peace, and inter-community cooperation across the Niger.
The courtesy call comes as preparations gather momentum for the official installation of Chief Anyijiofor as The Lord Mayor of Okija (Agunechemba), a landmark event expected to attract eminent traditional rulers, political leaders, captains of industry, and distinguished personalities from across Nigeria.
During the historic ceremony, his wife, Lady Ann Ngozi Anyijiofor, will also be formally crowned as the Ugo Mayor, marking a significant milestone in the traditional leadership structure of the Okija Kingdom.
According to the Central Planning Committee, the installation ceremony will be performed by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Emeka Okezie (Oka-Ije II) on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Oka-Ije Okija Royal Palace, Okija, Anambra State.
Following the palace ceremony, guests will be treated to a grand reception at the Lord Mayor’s Country Home in Umuezedam Ubahu, Okija, where cultural performances, traditional displays, and goodwill messages are expected to add colour to the celebration.
With anticipation already building across Anambra State and beyond, the installation is widely expected to rank among the most prestigious traditional events of the year, showcasing the richness of Igbo cultural heritage, royal tradition, and community leadership.
The courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba is therefore seen as a symbolic prelude to the historic occasion, further strengthening the age-long relationship between the royal institutions of Asaba and Okija while promoting regional harmony and cultural integration.
