As the political atmosphere in Delta State gradually heats up ahead of the 2027 general elections, lawyer and policy analyst, Eugene Azuka Uzum, has called on political gladiators to place the welfare of citizens above personal or partisan interests.
Uzum, a respected opinion leader in the state, expressed concern over what he described as “wobbling political stability” following the recent merger of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) structures in Delta.
According to him, the perceived takeover of APC structures by the ruling PDP and the sidelining of some party leaders in key senatorial districts was creating tension that could derail genuine political development in the state.
“The unwholesome arm-twisting and struggle for political dominance will not augur well for the generality of Deltans,” Uzum warned, adding that the state had enjoyed relative political stability until “political caution was thrown to the wind in pursuit of stomach-driven interests.”
He urged elected and appointed officials to focus on uniting their parties and delivering good governance rather than dissipating energy on internal political battles.
“What should be paramount is the collective welfare of our people, not the scramble for structures that leave citizens as mere pawns,” Uzum stressed.
Political observers say his caution comes at a time when grassroots supporters in Delta are increasingly worried that the ongoing power tussles could shift attention away from governance and development projects.
