The Delta State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on crime across the state, with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers notorious for attacking churches and carting away musical instruments and other valuables.

Acting on intelligence reports and community complaints, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, had earlier directed divisional police officers to intensify investigations into the syndicate’s activities. That directive yielded results on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, when officers of the Ogwashi-Uku Division, working in synergy with local vigilantes, foiled an attempted attack on the Dominican City Church, located along Polytechnic Road by Sticals Hotel.

During the operation, a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Van with registration number EFR-150-XB was intercepted. The two occupants—Emmanuel Emiowor (21), and Noah Philip (20), both residents of PTI Road, Warri—were arrested.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a frightening arsenal:

  • One pump-action gun
  • Three locally made single-barrel guns
  • One locally fabricated revolver
  • One live cartridge
  • An iron rod believed to have been used to break into church doors

Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a gang that specialises in raiding churches at night. Some of the stolen items have already been recovered, while police say further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the group.

Speaking on the development, CP Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid Delta State of criminal networks.

“Delta State will never be allowed to become a safe haven for crime. We remain relentless in pursuing offenders and dismantling their networks,” the CP declared.

He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely information. According to him, community cooperation remains vital in sustaining recent successes.

The public is reminded that suspicious activities can be reported via the Command’s dedicated emergency line: 08036684974 or by visiting the nearest police station.
