The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspected cultists following a violent clash in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to the Command, the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at about 7:00 am, when armed miscreants believed to be cult members engaged in a bloody confrontation behind Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe. The suspects reportedly attacked one another with cutlasses, daggers, broken bottles, and other dangerous weapons.
A joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes swiftly intervened, leading to the arrest of four suspects:
- Oyachonam Friday (26)
- Akachukwu Ekwenze (23)
- David Chukwuma (25)
- Eziolise Aloysius (23)
During the fracas, Chukwuma sustained machete wounds and was given medical attention. Police sources confirmed he is responding to treatment.
Investigations so far reveal that the suspects belong to the dreaded AYES confraternity, a cult group notorious for violent activities in the state. Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members who escaped into nearby bushes during the police raid.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents that the Command will continue to clamp down on cultism and related crimes across the state. He urged Ndi Anambra to remain vigilant and support security agencies with useful information to sustain peace and order.
