The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its fight against crime, with the rescue of a kidnapped victim, the arrest of a suspected abductor, and the recovery of firearms and illicit substances in separate operations across the state.
Kidnapped Girl Rescued in Agbor
Acting on credible intelligence, the Divisional Police Officer of Agbor Division, CSP Obekpa Michael, led his men and local vigilantes to Oza Nogogo community, where they raided the residence of one Bila Halili, a 30-year-old man from Kosso community in Sokoto State.
The suspect was found in company of a young girl, Rebecca Mathew, who had been reported missing since September 2, 2025. Rebecca, aged 17, hails from Bodinga community in Washegu LGA of Niger State and was abducted on September 11, 2025.
According to the Police, Rebecca revealed that she had been hypnotised and lured away from her family home. The suspect allegedly destroyed her SIM card to cut off communication with her family. She was rescued unharmed and reunited with her mother, Mrs. Esther Moses, who confirmed that a missing person’s complaint had earlier been lodged with the Niger State Police Command.
The suspect, Halili, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Armed Robbery Suspects Arrested in Asaba
In another major operation, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, in collaboration with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), stormed the Basket Market along Asaba–Benin Road, Uromi Junction, on September 9, 2025.
Led by the Commander of Eagle-Net, SP Yunusa Danyaya, the operatives acted on high-powered intelligence and arrested no fewer than 27 adult suspects. A locally fabricated cut-to-size gun and a large quantity of illicit drugs were recovered during the raid.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects used the hideout as a base to hatch and rehearse their criminal operations. They are currently in custody, with further investigations underway.
CP Abaniwonda Urges Community Partnership
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their swift action and reiterated the importance of community partnership in policing.
He stressed that security remains a collective responsibility, urging residents to continue providing credible and timely information that would assist the Police in combating crime.
“Security is everybody’s business. We will continue to do our part, but we need the support of the public to sustain the fight against crime in Delta State,” CP Abaniwonda said.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, assured the public that the Command remains committed to proactive policing strategies that prioritize the safety and well-being of residents.
