In a major breakthrough against motorcycle theft in Anambra State, operatives of the Nnobi Police Division under Ogidi Area Command, in collaboration with the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group, have arrested a suspected motorcycle robber and two alleged receivers of stolen motorcycles in Iruowelle Village, Awka-Etiti.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of October 13, 2025, led to the recovery of four Kymco 125 motorcycles suspected to have been stolen.

According to police sources, the arrest followed a report lodged by a victim two days earlier, on October 11, who recounted how two young men ambushed him and his wife around Awka-Etiti town, forcefully snatching their black Kata Pen motorcycle.

Following the report, police operatives launched a surveillance and intelligence-led investigation, which culminated in the arrest of one Chiemerie Okeke, described as a notorious motorcycle robbery suspect, along with two accomplices believed to be receivers of stolen motorcycles.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, commended the operatives and members of the Awka-Etiti Vigilante Group for their swift and coordinated response.

“This synergy between the Police and community vigilante groups remains a key pillar in our ongoing efforts to rid Anambra of criminal elements,” CP Orutugu stated.

He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in sustaining the fight against crime and other social vices across the State.
