The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will begin operating every 10 minutes from Monday, August 11, 2025, in a move expected to cut passengers’ journey time by eight minutes.
The announcement was made via the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). According to the agency, the reduced “headway” — the time between train departures — represents about a 44 percent time saving and will significantly improve travel efficiency for commuters.
Under the new schedule, weekday and Saturday trips will increase from 72 to 90, while Sunday operations will remain at 22 trips. To achieve this, four train sets will operate during peak hours, with two trains handling off-peak services.
LAMATA’s Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, attributed the enhanced service to the new rolling stock recently procured by the Lagos State Government with support from the Federal Government.
“We are all excited to facilitate the increase in the number of trips since our commitment is to have a world-class, sustainable transport system that satisfies stakeholders and drives the growth of Lagos,” Akinajo said.
She added that the expanded fleet and increased trip frequency mark a significant step toward the completion of the entire Blue Line, which will eventually run to Okokomaiko. The final phase of construction is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2026, with full operations starting in early 2027.
The Blue Line, which began passenger services on September 4, 2023, has so far transported more than five million passengers. The ongoing second phase of the project is on track for completion by the end of 2026.
