Organisers target healthier communities, youth engagement, good governance and political participation in Delta State

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, organisers of Project OK-27 Fitness Walk and Summit have unveiled plans for a two-day programme aimed at promoting healthy living, active citizenship, youth engagement and good governance in Nigeria.

The event, organised under the auspices of Citizens Assurance for a New Nigeria (CANN), is scheduled to hold on November 21 and 22, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State, with prominent political figures, community leaders, political candidates and advocacy groups featured in its publicity materials.

The programme, which carries the theme of promoting “Healthy Citizens, Active Leadership and a New Nigeria,” is designed to combine physical fitness with conversations on leadership, governance, national development and the future of Nigeria.

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are among the prominent political figures featured in the campaign materials, alongside the event’s Chief Host, Comrade Odu Chigozie Eric, who is also identified as the Project OK-27 coordinator and CANN Diaspora Coordinator.

TWO-DAY PROGRAMME

The first day of the programme, scheduled for Saturday, November 21, will feature a fitness walk beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Participants are expected to assemble at the Inter-Bau Roundabout, Asaba, the designated take-off point for the exercise.

The fitness walk is intended to encourage physical wellness, promote community participation and reinforce the importance of healthy citizens in building a productive society.

Organisers say the initiative is anchored on the belief that national development requires not only responsible leadership but also active, healthy and socially conscious citizens.

The second day, Sunday, November 22, will feature a summit and seminar scheduled for 12 noon at the Main Hall of Orchid Hotel, Asaba.

The summit will focus on ideas, solutions and pathways towards building a new Nigeria. It will also feature interactive sessions with Delta North candidates, providing an opportunity for conversations around leadership, political representation, governance and development priorities in the senatorial district.

PROMINENT PERSONALITIES FEATURED

The publicity materials identify several personalities as special guests for the programme.

They include Deacon Chris Iyowaye, Delta State Governorship Candidate; Engineer Kingsley Okafor, FNSE, FCA, Guest Speaker; Professor Pat O. Utomi, Guest Speaker; Rt. Hon. Victor Oryeki Ochei, Delta North Senatorial Candidate; and Hon. Aaron Dee Ebenuwa, Delta North Senatorial Chairman, NDC.

Their inclusion reflects the organisers’ stated interest in bringing together individuals from different professional, political and civic backgrounds to engage on issues affecting the country.

The programme is also expected to attract participation from several support groups and civic organisations, including Citizens Assurance for a New Nigeria (CANN), Delta Obedient Iroko Movement, Niger Delta Congress (NDC), Reform Naija Group and other affiliated organisations.

BEYOND PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Beyond the fitness walk, Project OK-27 is being presented as a platform for encouraging civic responsibility, political awareness and constructive engagement on the future of Nigeria.

Its stated objectives include building better and healthier communities, promoting youth engagement and empowerment, strengthening good governance and accountability, and advancing national unity without division.

The organisers believe that sustainable national development depends on the collective commitment of citizens, particularly young people, to participate meaningfully in the democratic process and contribute to community development.

The initiative also seeks to promote dialogue between political aspirants and citizens, particularly in Delta North, where the proposed interactive sessions are expected to provide an avenue for discussing leadership expectations and development priorities.

CANN AND ITS PARTNERS

Citizens Assurance for a New Nigeria (CANN), the organisation powering the programme, is working in partnership with Delta Obedient Iroko Movement, Niger Delta Congress, Reform Naija Group and other support organisations.

The coalition is positioning the programme around the aspiration for a healthier, more united and development-oriented Nigeria.

Comrade Odu Chigozie Eric, Chief Host of the event, is listed alongside Hon. Chris Okeke, National Coordinator of CANN, as a contact person for enquiries and participation.

A CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

With the fitness walk and summit scheduled for November 21 and 22 respectively, the organisers are inviting residents of Asaba, youth organisations, civil society groups, political stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the programme.

Registration and participation information is provided on the event flyer, alongside a QR code for interested participants.

As Nigeria approaches another electoral cycle, initiatives that bring citizens, political stakeholders and community organisations together for discussions on governance and development are likely to attract public attention.

For Project OK-27, the challenge will be to translate its message of healthy citizenship, active leadership and national unity into meaningful engagement and practical contributions to Nigeria’s democratic and developmental aspirations.
