The Anambra State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes during the 2025 December festive (ember) season, following coordinated security interventions across the state involving the Police and other sister security agencies.

The Police said the measures ensured the maintenance of public safety, protection of lives and property, and prompt response to reported incidents during the period, leading to largely peaceful celebrations across Anambra State.

One of the notable achievements was the arrest of a suspect over alleged cyber bullying and defamation. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested a 42-year-old woman, Eucharia Ogochukwu, at about 3:20 p.m. on December 31, 2025, in Awka.

According to the Police, the suspect is being investigated for alleged criminal conspiracy, cyber bullying, and defamation of character against a very senior police officer who previously served in the Anambra State Command. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Police sources disclosed that the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the incident.

In another development, the Command confirmed the successful containment of security challenges that arose during Town Union elections held in some communities across the state within the festive period.

Security operatives, working in collaboration with other agencies and community stakeholders, were swiftly deployed to affected areas following reports of tension and disagreements linked to the electoral processes. The timely intervention, the Police said, prevented a breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents, and restored calm to the communities.

The Police Command commended community leaders, town union officials, and residents for their cooperation and restraint, noting that their conduct played a critical role in the peaceful resolution of the disputes.

Residents and stakeholders dissatisfied with the outcomes of the elections were advised to seek redress through lawful and established channels rather than resorting to actions that could threaten public peace.

Throughout the festive season, joint security patrols were intensified along major highways, commercial centres, places of worship, and recreational areas across the state. These measures, the Police said, contributed to a calm, orderly, and hitch-free celebration in most parts of Anambra State.

The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining public safety and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
