CP Erale Orders Thorough Investigation, Assures Family of Justice
ASABA, DELTA STATE — The Delta State Police Command has arrested one suspect in connection with the death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education in Asaba.
The Police Command, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the deceased’s death followed an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu.
According to the Command, it had taken note of allegations that the deceased was physically assaulted by some aides attached to the Commissioner, identified as Enos Attah, Oputa Okestine and Lucky Adoh.
The Police said that following receipt of complaints concerning the incident, it immediately commenced action, leading to the arrest of Lucky Adoh, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects allegedly connected to the incident.
The Command said the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent death of the Deputy Director.
The investigation, according to the Police, will examine all available evidence in order to establish what transpired and determine whether any criminal responsibility exists.
Among the evidence expected to be examined are available video recordings, eyewitness accounts, medical records and other relevant materials relating to the incident.
The Command stressed that the investigation would cover the actions of all persons connected with the incident, adding that anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
CP Erale Assures Family of Justice
CP Erale has assured the family of the deceased, concerned citizens and members of the public that the Police Command would pursue the matter without fear or favour.
The Commissioner of Police said the Command would neither shield nor spare anyone found culpable, regardless of the person’s status or position.
The assurance comes amid public concern over the circumstances surrounding the death of the senior civil servant and calls for a transparent investigation into the incident.
The Police Command said relevant updates would be made available as the investigation progresses.
CP Erale also expressed condolences to the family of Mr. Adeda, assuring them that the Police would diligently pursue justice in the matter.
The Delta State Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out their duties, while efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has meanwhile been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
