The Bauchi State Police Command has intensified security operations in parts of Alkaleri Local Government Area following renewed banditry threats in some border communities.
At a press briefing on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, announced the deployment of massive security personnel and enhanced weaponry to Gwana, Digare, and Kafin Duguri communities.
Habib said the move followed a comprehensive security assessment prompted by a resurgence of criminal activities in the affected areas.
“In recent days, there has been a resurgence of security concerns in Gwana, Digare and Kafin Duguri. Following a thorough security assessment, the Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies, has initiated a massive deployment of joint security personnel to the affected communities with a view to suppressing the activities of these criminal elements,” he stated.
He explained that the operation is being carried out through a joint task arrangement involving the police, the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies, with support from the Bauchi State Government.
According to the police spokesperson, early outcomes of the operation indicate positive progress, noting that sustained patrols and strategic positioning of operatives are aimed at preventing further attacks and restoring public confidence.
Habib clarified that while neighbouring communities have experienced security breaches, Mansur town remains safe and unaffected. He dismissed reports suggesting residents fled due to confirmed attacks, assuring that the situation is under control.
“Despite recent incidents in neighbouring Gwana District, Mansur town remains unaffected, and there is no cause for alarm. Massive deployments of security personnel and enhanced weaponry have been put in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order. Operatives are working tirelessly to ensure peace and stability in the affected areas,” he added.
The Command further declared that there would be no safe haven for bandits within Alkaleri LGA, stressing that security operations would be sustained until normalcy is fully restored.
Habib also conveyed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, who urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious movements, unfamiliar faces, or unusual objects within their communities, with assurances that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged citizens to continue their lawful activities without fear as security agencies intensify efforts to combat banditry in the area.
