Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, has shelved plans to pursue legal action over the party’s governorship primary, urging the APC leadership to embark on a comprehensive reconciliation process ahead of the 2027 general election.
Adelabu disclosed his decision in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday, explaining that his decision was motivated by the need to protect the interests and unity of the party.
He said his decision was not borne out of a lack of evidence, confidence or conviction, but was taken in the interest of the party’s progress ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the decision followed a meeting with some party leaders as well as representatives of his loyalists and supporters drawn from the 33 local government areas and 351 wards in Oyo State.
The development comes amid disagreements among some APC governorship aspirants and members of the party’s state and national leadership over the emergence of Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Some of the aspirants had alleged that Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was imposed on the party.
Adelabu, however, said he had decided, as a loyal and committed member of the APC, not to pursue an internal appeal or institute legal proceedings over the primary at this time.
He instead called on the party leadership to initiate a comprehensive reconciliation process capable of addressing the grievances of aggrieved members and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 election.
The former minister’s decision is expected to contribute to ongoing efforts to resolve the internal disagreements within the Oyo APC and present a united front ahead of the next governorship election.
