Former Corps Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps, Brigadier General Biodun Bashir Adewinmbi (Rtd.), has congratulated the Accord Party, the Adeleke family and the Ede Descendants Union on the outcome of the just-concluded Osun State governorship election.
Adewinmbi, in a statement issued after the election, said the outcome reflected the decision of the people of Osun State, stressing that the will of the electorate, as expressed through the ballot, must be respected in a democratic society.
He also commended the people of Osun State and all political stakeholders who participated in the electoral process for exercising their civic responsibilities.
However, the retired military officer called on political leaders, stakeholders and supporters across the state to embrace peace and reconciliation following the conclusion of the election.
He particularly appealed to the Governor of Osun State and Chief Security Officer of the state, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, to demonstrate leadership by ensuring that peace, security and the fundamental rights of all residents are protected irrespective of political affiliation.
According to him, the period after the election should not be characterised by bitterness, recrimination, intimidation or political vendetta, but should usher in reconciliation, development and a renewed commitment to the collective prosperity of Osun State.
“Osun belongs to all of us. It belongs to those who voted for the winning side, those who voted for the opposition, those who did not vote, and those who simply desire good governance, security, economic opportunity and a better future for their families,” he said.
Adewinmbi emphasised that peace remains critical to post-election development and economic growth, noting that investors require confidence, businesses need stability, while communities require security to thrive.
He urged the governor to ensure that every citizen is protected and allowed to pursue legitimate economic and social activities without fear.
The retired general equally appealed to members and supporters of all political parties to sheath their swords and embrace dialogue, stressing that political differences should not degenerate into personal enmity or violence.
He urged the Accord Party, the Adeleke family, the Ede Descendants Union and other political actors in the state to place the collective interests of Osun above personal and partisan considerations.
“Let us disagree politically without becoming enemies. Let us compete during elections but unite in governance and development. Let us replace bitterness with dialogue, suspicion with trust, and confrontation with cooperation,” he stated.
Adewinmbi also appealed to youths across the state not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, warning that the consequences of violence would ultimately be borne by the younger generation.
“The future belongs to them, and whatever we destroy today will ultimately be inherited by the next generation,” he said.
Describing himself as a son of Ede Land and a stakeholder deeply committed to the peace and progress of Osun State, Adewinmbi expressed hope that the post-election period would usher in a new era of peace, unity, security, development and prosperity.
He reiterated his congratulations to the Accord Party, the Adeleke family and the Ede Descendants Union, while extending his goodwill to all residents of Osun State.
Adewinmbi is a former Corps Commander of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps. He is also the Baba Oba of Ekuro Land, Shariki Magayaki Hausawa of Uke Kingdom, Nasarawa State, and Enyi Ndigbo Gburugburu of Igbo Kingdoms.
He concluded by praying for continued peace and divine blessings for Osun State and its people.
