The people of Azungwu in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, has began the celebration of their age-long Iwu festival with great enthusiasm.
The two-day event began with Afor Iwu which featured a colorful display of cultural heritage by the ihene, Chief priests and priestesses of the community.
This first day of the event was a resounding success, further solidifying Chief Gabriel Anyibuofu Ohai’s position as a beacon of cultural excellence.
As the host of the event, Chief Ohai, the Odogwu of Ogwashi-Uku, led hundreds of people in celebrating the Iwu festival. He emphasized the significance of the festival as a symbol of peace and unity, praying that it would bring prosperity and peace to the land.
The festival was well-attended, with both young and old coming out in large numbers to celebrate and showcase their commitment to their cultural heritage.
The traditional warlord expressed delight at the community’s efforts in preserving their traditions and encouraged the people to continue embracing their cultural identity.
He also used the opportunity to urge the people to remain united and committed to peaceful coexistence, highlighting their shared heritage and ancestral background.
While emphasizing that unity is essential for the development of the community, Chief Ohai urged the people of the community to support the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku, His Majesty Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, for the sustainable peace and progress of the kingdom.
