The appointment of Barrister David Igbodo, AIG (Rtd.), as the General Secretary of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Delta State, has been described as a strategic move capable of strengthening grassroots mobilisation and political coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Igbodo, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police and respected community leader, was congratulated on his appointment, which was described as a recognition of his loyalty, commitment, leadership experience and contributions to political and community development in Delta State.
Those familiar with his leadership record believe that his extensive grassroots connections, experience in public service and ability to engage diverse stakeholders could prove valuable to the support group as it seeks to expand its structures across the state.
As General Secretary, Igbodo is expected to play a central role in coordinating the activities of the TSG, strengthening communication among supporters and facilitating engagement with political leaders, elected officials, youth organisations, women groups, community leaders and other stakeholders.
His appointment comes at a politically significant period, with political actors already positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections. For the Tinubu Support Group, the task will extend beyond political messaging to include sustained grassroots engagement and effective communication of the policies and achievements of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
Observers say the TSG will need to develop strong structures at the local government, ward and community levels if it is to effectively mobilise support for President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027.
Regular consultations, town hall meetings, media engagements, voter sensitisation and community-level mobilisation are expected to form part of the broader strategy required to take the Renewed Hope Agenda to the grassroots.
Igbodo’s experience, according to his congratulatory message, places him in a strategic position to help bridge the gap between the leadership of the support group and ordinary supporters across Delta State.
The message urged him to ensure that every local government, ward and community feels the presence of the movement, while encouraging the meaningful participation of young people and women in mobilisation, communication and community engagement.
