The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed a trending social media video alleging that a senior police officer is aiding kidnapping and violent crimes in the state, describing the content as false, mischievous, and malicious.
In a statement issued in Awka by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police maintained that the video was a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force and demonize the officer featured in it.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the officer shown in the video is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is not serving in the Anambra State Police Command,” Ikenga clarified. “He remains one of the pride of the Force in both character and crime-fighting.”
The Command noted that Anambra has in recent years recorded remarkable progress in curbing violent crimes, particularly kidnapping. This achievement, according to Ikenga, is the result of strong collaboration between residents and security agencies working together to resist criminal activities.
He further urged members of the public to disregard the misleading video, emphasizing that the sacrifices of security operatives in safeguarding lives and property must not be trivialized.
Meanwhile, the police have vowed to invoke relevant provisions of the Cybercrime Laws to ensure that those behind the circulation of the malicious video face justice.
