A political advocacy group, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Global Ambassadors (BATGA), has intensified calls within the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the adoption of retired Brigadier General Biodun Bashiru Adewinbi as the party’s consensus candidate for the Osun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a detailed statement addressed to party leaders from the ward to the national level, as well as to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the group described Adewinbi as a “strategic, winnable, and unifying choice” capable of reclaiming the senatorial district for the APC and strengthening the party’s prospects in Osun State.

The statement, signed by BATGA Convener Prince Realtor Kayode Olabode and Secretary General Alhaji Ambassador Nurudeen A., outlined what it termed “50 compelling reasons” for the adoption of the retired military officer, citing his grassroots structure, security credentials, and longstanding loyalty to the party.

Grassroots Strength and Political Reach

Central to BATGA’s argument is Adewinbi’s role as the pioneer chairman of the Osun Amotekun Corps, which the group said provided him with an extensive network across all local government areas and wards in the state, particularly in Osun West.

According to the group, this structure has evolved into a ready-made political base capable of mobilizing supporters rapidly across communities, including rural areas often considered difficult terrain during elections.

The group also highlighted Adewinbi’s roots in Ede, the hometown of the incumbent governor, arguing that his candidacy could disrupt the stronghold of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area and rebalance political dynamics in the district.

Loyalty and Empowerment Record

BATGA further pointed to Adewinbi’s consistent support for the APC since his retirement from military service, noting that he remained with the party through challenging periods, including the 2018 and 2022 election cycles.

The group credited him with empowering thousands of party members and residents through cooperative initiatives, micro-credit schemes, and employment opportunities linked to the Amotekun Corps.

They added that his engagement with traders, artisans, youths, and women groups has built a broad base of trust and loyalty across the district.

Security Expertise and National Profile

Adewinbi’s 31-year military career, culminating in the rank of Brigadier General, was also emphasized as a major asset. The group argued that his background in security and crisis management positions him to contribute meaningfully to legislative efforts, particularly in areas of national security, defense, and internal affairs.

They noted that his experience in handling communal conflicts in Osun without escalation reflects leadership qualities needed in the Senate.

Strategic Advantage for APC

BATGA framed the push for consensus as a strategic move to avoid internal party conflicts, reduce the cost of primaries, and present a united front ahead of the elections.

The group maintained that securing Osun West in 2027 would be pivotal to the APC’s broader ambition of reclaiming Osun State, stressing that Adewinbi’s candidacy could weaken the PDP’s dominance in key areas such as Ede.

They also argued that adopting him would promote equity, noting that Ede Federal Constituency has not produced a senator since 1999.

Development Agenda and Legislative Focus

On policy direction, the group said Adewinbi is expected to prioritize agricultural development, youth empowerment, and security reforms if elected. They added that his familiarity with federal institutions would enhance his ability to attract projects and investments to Osun West.

Call for Party Action

Concluding the appeal, BATGA urged the APC National Working Committee, zonal and state leadership, and other stakeholders to endorse Adewinbi as the party’s consensus candidate.

“The retired general represents discipline, loyalty, and capacity,” the statement noted, adding that his adoption would signal a reward system for party faithful and reinforce internal cohesion.

As political activities gradually build toward the 2027 elections, the call underscores ongoing consultations and strategic positioning within the APC as stakeholders seek to consolidate influence and improve electoral outcomes in Osun State.
