The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has declared the Delta Special Economic Zone (DSEZ) a transformative project capable of revolutionizing the economic landscape of Delta State and contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s GDP.
This commendation followed a recent inspection tour by NEPZA officials to the Kwale and Koko Free Trade Zones located within Delta State. Speaking during the visit, Hauwa Audu Tarfa, Deputy Director of Zones at NEPZA, emphasized the strategic advantage of the Delta SEZ, citing its location and abundant natural resources as key attractions for both local and foreign investors.
“When fully operational, this zone will not only uplift the economic status of Delta State but also significantly impact national economic growth,” Tarfa noted. She lauded the state’s commitment to industrial development, highlighting the political will demonstrated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in driving economic reforms.
The Managing Director/CEO of Delta Special Economic Zone, Pastor Godwin Akpovie, expressed gratitude for the NEPZA team’s visit and reaffirmed the zone’s mission to catalyze economic transformation in the region. He noted that the Kwale Free Trade Zone is rich in oil and gas reserves, while the Koko Free Trade Zone’s proximity to the Atlantic Ocean presents strategic advantages for port development, maritime logistics, and international trade.
Akpovie commended Governor Oborevwori’s administration for implementing the MORE Agenda — a framework that promotes economic growth, infrastructure development, and investment-friendly policies across the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Delta Special Economic Zone Board, Brig. Gen. Mike Ndubisi (Rtd), said the zone is designed to strengthen Delta’s role as a strategic trade hub. He emphasized that its infrastructure would enable efficient import and export operations, thus enhancing Nigeria’s participation in global value chains.
Dr. Peter Ese Oriavwote, a member of the board, described the DSEZ as a vital driver of industrialization, trade, and manufacturing. “This zone will unlock Delta’s vast potential, serving as a catalyst for broad-based economic growth,” he stated.
In his remarks, NEPZA’s Director of Zones, Emmanuel Ofunne, applauded the leadership of Pastor Akpovie and the enabling environment created by Governor Oborevwori, which he said has made Delta State increasingly attractive to investors.
With visible progress on ground and strong institutional backing, the Delta Special Economic Zone is fast emerging as a key pillar in Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable industrialization and global trade integration.
