EDE, OSUN STATE — As the Osun State governorship election draws closer, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and former Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General (Dr.) Bashir Biodun Adewinmbi (Rtd.), has called on residents to come out en masse and vote for the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as “AMBO.”
Adewinmbi made the call while speaking with newsmen at his residence in Ede, where he described the forthcoming election as an important opportunity for the people of Osun State to determine the direction of the state’s future.
The renowned security expert, philanthropist and community leader said a victory for the APC and its candidate would, in his view, provide an opportunity to reposition Osun State and restore what he described as its rightful place among its contemporaries.
He further linked the APC campaign in Osun to the broader Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that the state could benefit more from aligning with the Federal Government’s development initiatives.
According to him, the people of Osun should use their votes to support what he described as a new direction for the state, rather than allowing the election to be influenced by immediate financial inducements or acts of violence.
Adewinmbi particularly appealed to youths across the state to reject vote-selling, political thuggery and other forms of electoral violence, stressing the importance of peaceful participation in the democratic process.
He urged eligible voters to turn out peacefully on election day, exercise their franchise responsibly and protect the integrity of their votes.
The former Amotekun commander also called on political actors and supporters of the various parties to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election, saying that the development of Osun State should remain the collective priority of all stakeholders.
The Osun governorship election, scheduled for August 15, 2026, is expected to attract significant political attention as the major parties intensify their campaigns and mobilisation efforts across the state.
