ASABA, DELTA STATE – The State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Hon. Christopher Agali, has been honoured with the prestigious African Game Changer Award and formally inducted into the forthcoming 2026 Edition of the 100 African Game Changers Compendium, in recognition of his contributions to youth development, political mobilization, grassroots leadership, and community advancement.
The honour was conferred during a courtesy visit by representatives of Fresh Facts Magazine and the African Network for Accountability (ANFA), Ghana, who officially notified him of his selection following a rigorous nomination, screening, and verification process.
The 100 African Game Changers Compendium, a continental publication released once every four years, celebrates outstanding Africans whose leadership, innovation, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and public service are contributing significantly to the development of communities and the advancement of Africa.
Presenting the award, the Publisher of Fresh Facts Magazine and Project Director of the Compendium, Comr Monday Iyke described Agali as one of the emerging voices of contemporary Nigerian politics whose commitment to youth empowerment and democratic participation has earned him recognition beyond Delta State.
According to the Publisher, Agali’s selection was based not merely on his political position but on his measurable impact, leadership qualities, and dedication to nurturing a new generation of responsible leaders.
“Hon. Christopher Agali has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment to youth development, political inclusion, mentorship, community service, and democratic engagement. Through his leadership, many young people have become more actively involved in governance and nation-building,” he said.
The Publisher further noted that Agali’s work in mobilizing youths, promoting civic responsibility, and encouraging constructive participation in democratic processes aligns with the vision of the Compendium, which seeks to document and celebrate Africans making meaningful contributions to society.
Hon Agali Reacts
Responding after receiving the honour, Hon. Agali expressed gratitude to the organizers and reflected on his longstanding involvement in youth and political development.
“We have been in this business for a very long time, even from our student days,” he said. “It is a privilege to meet you people because we have worked together over the years. We have remained committed to serving and organizing young people.”
Agali emphasized that his primary objective as a youth leader is to guide young people towards responsible political participation and informed decision-making.
“All we are trying to do is to organize the youths and lead them in the right direction. Politics is not what we see every day on social media. Young people need to understand politics beyond Facebook campaigns and online narratives. They must understand governance and leadership from a practical perspective,” he stated.
The APC youth leader advised young Nigerians to support leaders based on performance and experience, stressing the need for continuity in governance.
“We should allow Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete his second tenure. Young people should take time to see the work being done across the country and particularly in the South-South region. There are visible developments and efforts that deserve recognition,” he said.
Agali further disclosed plans for wider youth engagement and mobilization across Delta State.
“When the time comes, we will organize youth rallies and engagements where we will discuss the importance of participation and responsible leadership. Young people have a role to play in shaping the future of this country,” he added.
Calls for Youth Support Ahead of Future Elections
Speaking further on the role of youths in future electoral processes, Agali stressed the importance of supporting candidates of the APC at various levels.
“It is very important for the youths to support all our candidates. The love and support they have shown our governor should also be extended to Mr. President. Whatever achievements we see today are the result of collaboration between state and federal leadership. Mr. President has played a major role and remains our hero,” he said.
He maintained that youth participation remains critical to democratic success and urged young people to become actively involved in governance rather than remaining passive observers.
Reactions from Delta Youths and Residents
The recognition of Hon. Agali generated mixed but largely positive reactions among youths and residents across Delta State.
Some youth leaders described the award as well deserved, noting that Agali has consistently engaged young people in political and community activities.
Mr. Emmanuel Oghenekaro, a youth advocate in Ughelli, said the recognition reflected Agali’s dedication to youth mobilization and leadership development.
“Whether one belongs to his political party or not, it is difficult to deny his visibility among young people in Delta State. He has remained active in promoting youth involvement in politics,” he said.
Similarly, Miss Esther Ejiro, a student leader in Asaba, commended Agali’s emphasis on mentorship and youth participation.
“Many young politicians focus only on elections, but Agali has consistently encouraged leadership development among youths. That is something worth recognizing,” she stated.
However, some residents urged political leaders to complement political mobilization with more tangible youth empowerment programmes.
Mr. Peter Akpowowo, a resident of Warri, said youth leaders should continue advocating for employment opportunities, skills acquisition, and economic inclusion.
“Recognition is good, but young people also want to see practical opportunities that improve their lives. We hope leaders will continue pushing for programmes that create jobs and support entrepreneurship,” he said.
Others viewed the award as an encouragement for emerging leaders to remain committed to public service.
Mrs. Joy Okiemute, a community leader in Sapele, noted that celebrating positive contributions can inspire more young people to pursue leadership roles responsibly.
“When leaders are recognized for good work, it motivates others to contribute positively to society. We need more examples of responsible leadership among our youths,” she remarked.
Continental Recognition
The official launch of the 2026 100 African Game Changers Compendium is scheduled to take place in Accra, Ghana, in November 2026. The publication will feature distinguished Africans making remarkable contributions in governance, education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, innovation, public service, community development, and social transformation.
