The Ota Divisional Command of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has distributed raincoats to its operatives as part of efforts to enhance road safety and ensure personnel visibility during the rainy season.
The raincoats, presented on Wednesday by Ota Divisional Commander, Cdr. Hameed Salau, were handed over on behalf of the Acting Corps Commander/Chief Executive Officer, Cdr. Elias Omonayajo. According to TRACE, the initiative forms part of its Corporate Social Responsibility scheme and is aimed at maintaining smooth traffic management during adverse weather conditions.
Speaking at the presentation, Cdr. Salau stressed that heavy downpours often worsen traffic situations, making the presence of enforcement officers critical.
“Our officers must not abandon their duty posts during such periods,” he said. “These raincoats will not only shield them from the rain but also ensure they remain visible to motorists, which is essential for preventing accidents and responding to emergencies.”
The Ogun West Zonal Commander, Cdr. Adekunle Ajibade, who also commended the initiative, said the move would boost the morale and efficiency of TRACE personnel. He, however, cautioned operatives against misconduct while on duty, warning that the raincoats had been customized with unique identification numbers traceable to individual officers.
“Any operative caught engaging in bribery or unethical practices will be sanctioned,” Ajibade warned. “We are determined to maintain professionalism and integrity in our operations, rain or shine.”
TRACE authorities reaffirmed that the distribution was not just about welfare but also about strengthening public trust in the Corps’ commitment to safety and discipline, particularly during the challenging rainy season when road accidents tend to spike.
