The much-anticipated 10th edition of the Olu of Warri Community Peace Cup will officially kick off on Saturday, July 26, with a high-stakes encounter between Igbogidi and Orhuwhorun communities in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

The opening match, which promises to be a thrilling contest, will take place at the historic Nana College pitch in Warri, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

Organisers say this year’s edition is particularly significant, as it marks a decade of promoting peace, unity, and youth engagement through grassroots football across various Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Ijaw communities in Delta State. The tournament, initiated under the royal blessings of the revered Olu of Warri, serves as a platform for inter-community bonding and talent discovery.

Fresh Facts Magazine gathered that the draw ceremony for the 2025 edition of the Peace Cup was held on Saturday, July 19, at the Ojoye Eyewuoma Hall along Esisi Road, Warri. The event brought together community leaders, team representatives, youth stakeholders, and football enthusiasts who were eager to know their group-stage opponents.

A total of four venues have been approved for this year’s matches: Nana College Field, Yonwuren College Field, Ubeji Grammar School Field, and Rice Farm Ground, located along Esisi Road in Warri.

Speaking shortly after the draw, one of the organisers emphasized the importance of the tournament in fostering peaceful coexistence among communities and discouraging youth restiveness. “This is more than just football. It’s a celebration of peace and togetherness. Over the years, we have seen how this competition has helped bridge divides and bring young people together for a common cause,” he said.

The Igbogidi-Orhuwhorun clash is already generating buzz among local fans and football followers in Delta State, with many anticipating a fierce but friendly rivalry. Both communities are known for producing passionate and talented players, and the encounter is expected to set the tone for what promises to be an action-packed tournament.

As the opening whistle approaches, expectations are high that the 2025 Olu of Warri Peace Cup will not only deliver entertaining football but also continue to strengthen the ideals of unity, sportsmanship, and community development across the Niger Delta region.
