ASABA — Delta State is poised to take centre stage in Africa’s economic transformation as it prepares to host the Delta State Economic & Investment Summit 2026, a high-level investment forum expected to attract global investors, policymakers, development partners, business leaders, and economic experts from across the world.
Scheduled to hold from August 3 to 5, 2026, at The Dome Event Centre, Asaba, the summit is designed to position Delta State as one of Nigeria’s foremost investment destinations while contributing significantly to Africa’s drive for sustainable economic growth, industrialisation, and regional integration.
With the theme, “Harnessing Our Strengths, Unlocking Our Potential,” the summit is expected to provide a strategic platform for showcasing Delta State’s abundant natural resources, investment-friendly policies, expanding infrastructure, and opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, oil and gas, technology, tourism, renewable energy, and the blue economy.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is billed as the Special Guest of Honour, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Guest of Honour. The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will host the event.
One of the major highlights of the summit will be the keynote address by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, whose participation is expected to reinforce the summit’s international significance and provide insight into Africa’s place in the evolving global economy.
Other prominent speakers include Executive Chairman of AA Holdings, Engr. Austin Avuru, renowned Pan-African scholar Prof. Patrice L.O. Lumumba, Chairman of Nigeria’s Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, and the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole.
Speaking ahead of the summit, organisers said the event would serve as a catalyst for attracting both domestic and foreign direct investment by connecting investors with viable projects across strategic sectors of the Delta economy.
The summit is also expected to facilitate policy dialogue on economic reforms, improve investor confidence, strengthen public-private partnerships, and promote innovation-driven development capable of creating employment opportunities for thousands of young people.
Boosting Africa’s Economic Prospects
Economic analysts believe the summit comes at a time when African countries are increasingly seeking innovative approaches to diversify their economies, deepen regional trade, and reduce dependence on commodity exports.
As Africa continues to implement the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), sub-national governments like Delta State are expected to play a more active role in attracting investment, promoting industrialisation, and expanding value-added production.
Stakeholders believe that if the summit succeeds in attracting long-term investments into critical sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, energy, and digital technology, the economic benefits will extend beyond Delta State to Nigeria and the wider African continent.
The expected investment inflows could stimulate industrial growth, strengthen supply chains, increase exports, enhance technology transfer, create employment opportunities, and improve the ease of doing business within the region.
Development economists have also noted that initiatives such as the Delta State Economic & Investment Summit demonstrate the growing importance of state governments in driving economic development and complementing national efforts to build resilient and competitive economies.
A Platform for Strategic Partnerships
The summit is expected to provide a unique opportunity for government officials, investors, development finance institutions, multinational corporations, entrepreneurs, and innovators to engage in productive discussions aimed at unlocking new investment opportunities.
Industry observers say the convergence of global economic leaders, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders in Asaba could result in investment commitments, strategic alliances, and policy recommendations capable of accelerating Delta State’s transformation into a major commercial and industrial hub.
As preparations gather momentum, expectations remain high that the summit will not only showcase Delta State’s economic potential but also strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as an emerging investment destination in Africa.
For Delta State, the summit represents more than a business conference—it is a strategic declaration of intent to harness its strengths, unlock its vast potential, and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s economic renaissance
