The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, January 15, 2026, joined the rest of the nation in commemorating Armed Forces Remembrance Day, paying glowing tribute to officers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
The solemn wreath-laying ceremony, held as part of the annual remembrance activities, was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, alongside other State Service Chiefs and distinguished personalities. The event was led by the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who represented the state’s collective gratitude to fallen security personnel.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day, marked every January 15, is set aside to honour members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies who lost their lives while defending the nation’s sovereignty, preserving peace, and protecting lives and property. It also serves as a reminder of the heavy sacrifices borne daily by security personnel in the face of insecurity and national challenges.
At the Anambra ceremony, the atmosphere was marked by deep reflection and reverence. Activities included a moment of silence, intercessory prayers, a gun salute, and the laying of wreaths by Governor Soludo, CP Orutugu, Service Chiefs, and other dignitaries. The ceremony culminated in the unveiling and release of white pigeons, symbolising peace, hope, and the collective resolve to build a safer and more harmonious society.

Speaking through the symbolism of the event, participants underscored the importance of not only remembering fallen heroes but also recommitting to the values they stood for—courage, selfless service, and patriotism. The ceremony also highlighted the need for sustained support for serving officers and the families of those who died in active service.
For Anambra State, the remembrance was particularly significant amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to maintain law and order and protect communities. The presence of the Commissioner of Police and other Service Chiefs reinforced the message that the sacrifices of fallen officers continue to inspire renewed dedication to duty.
As Nigeria observes Armed Forces Remembrance Day each year, the Anambra ceremony stood as a solemn reminder that the peace enjoyed by citizens is built on the bravery and ultimate sacrifice of men and women in uniform—heroes whose memories remain etched in the nation’s conscience.
