National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he would only align with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections if he is offered either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.
Kwankwaso made this known while addressing members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement during a political gathering at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, where he spoke extensively on emerging political realignments and permutations ahead of the next general elections.
“At the national level, we are looking for a political party to align with,” the former Kano State governor said. “But it must be a party that will offer me either the presidential ticket or the vice-presidential slot.”
His remarks come amid growing speculation over possible defections and alliances involving key political actors, particularly rumours suggesting that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, may be considering a move from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the reports, Kwankwaso dismissed the speculation as baseless and unrealistic. “That is nothing but a dream,” he said, insisting that the NNPP leadership and its elected officials in Kano remain firmly committed to the party.
Kwankwaso also used the occasion to criticise the prevailing political approach under President Bola Tinubu, arguing that numerical dominance within a political party does not automatically translate into electoral victory. According to him, the APC’s control of a large number of states through its governors is not a guarantee of future success at the polls.
He maintained that credibility, grassroots acceptance, popular support, and tangible performance are the true determinants of electoral outcomes, rather than sheer political numbers.
Kwankwaso’s comments have further intensified national political conversations around possible alliances, defections, and strategic realignments as political parties and power blocs begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Fresh Facts Magazine will continue to monitor developments surrounding emerging political coalitions and the evolving strategies of major political actors in the build-up to the next electoral cycle.
