The Delta State Police Command has continued to make significant strides in its ongoing efforts to curb violent crime, cultism, and other threats to public peace across the state. Through sustained intelligence gathering, proactive patrols, and stronger community collaboration, the Command recently recorded major breakthroughs in Agbor and Warri, leading to the arrest of a murder suspect and a suspected cultist-armed robbery syndicate.
Murder Suspect Arrested in Agbor
Operatives attached to the Agbor Police Division have arrested a key suspect linked to the abduction and murder of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.
According to police reports, on October 7, 2025, a missing person’s complaint was lodged at the division concerning one Friday Orumgbe, 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who left home on October 6 with his Lifan motorcycle but never returned.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, ordered an immediate and discreet investigation. Through sustained intelligence efforts, police operatives arrested one Musa Buhari, 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16, 2025. The victim’s mobile phone—a Tecno T101 handset—was recovered from him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (currently at large), lured the victim into a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor, under the guise of being passengers. They then attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone.
On October 17, at about 8:05 a.m., the DPO led operatives, alongside the suspect, to the crime scene where the decomposed body of the victim was discovered. Family members later identified the remains, which have been deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Cultist-Armed Robbery Syndicate Dismantled in Warri
In another breakthrough, operatives of ‘A’ Division, Warri, acting under the directive of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, intensified night patrols in volatile areas, particularly the Ubeji community, following reports of renewed cult clashes.
At about 3:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, a patrol team from ‘B’ Division, Warri spotted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL 359 DS, Abuja) parked suspiciously with two occupants. The occupants, identified as Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26, were questioned but could not provide satisfactory explanations for their presence at that hour.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barreled gun, one battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge. Preliminary investigation revealed that Akpos is a member of both the MAPHITE confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He also confessed that the firearm was given to him by one Mr. Shimaye, identified as the Deputy Chairman of Ubeji community.
Both suspects are in custody as the Command intensifies efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover additional weapons.
CP Commends Officers’ Professionalism
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift action in apprehending the suspects. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to stamping out all forms of criminality across the state.
“The Command will continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations and community-based policing strategies to ensure the safety of lives and property in Delta State,” the CP said.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, assured that the police remain vigilant and proactive in their mission to dismantle criminal networks and maintain public peace.
