The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the legal community in the pursuit of justice, human rights protection, and public trust in law enforcement.
On Monday, October 14, 2025, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, received members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Awka Branch, and the Human Rights Committee of the Association at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen synergy between the Police and the Bar in promoting justice and upholding the rule of law in the State.
In his address, CP Orutugu commended the leadership of the NBA for its consistent advocacy and partnership in advancing the cause of justice. He described the relationship between the Police and the Bar as “a strategic alliance essential to ensuring justice delivery and protecting citizens’ rights.”
The Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in all police operations. He noted that oversight activities such as cell visits and pro bono legal interventions are vital in ensuring compliance with due process and the protection of suspects’ rights.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the NBA Awka Branch, along with the Chairperson of the Human Rights Committee, lauded the Police Command for its open-door policy and efforts to improve police-citizen relations under CP Orutugu’s leadership.
They expressed the Association’s readiness to continue working with the Police in the areas of training, sensitization, and mediation on human rights issues, emphasizing that sustained collaboration between both institutions is crucial to building a fair and trusted criminal justice system in Anambra State.
