The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition in an intelligence-led operation.

The arrest, which underscores ongoing efforts to tackle armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state, was carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, in collaboration with local vigilantes.

According to a press release issued on Saturday, October 10, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, the operation took place at about 10:30 p.m. on October 7, 2026, following credible intelligence.

The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, 26, was allegedly linked to an armed robbery syndicate suspected of carrying out several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.

Police sources disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect made useful statements that led operatives to a suspected criminal hideout near Okpanam City Gate. A subsequent search reportedly led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.

The police said investigations were ongoing to establish the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement and uncover other members of the suspected criminal network.
