LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has announced that the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area will commence on Tuesday, August 19, and run until Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

The announcement, made by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, on Friday, comes shortly after the successful completion and reopening of the bridge following the first phase of the maintenance exercise.

According to Osiyemi, the second phase will focus on the repair of expansion joints on the bridge, inbound Lagos Island. He explained that the project would be executed in sections to reduce gridlock and minimize inconvenience to road users.

Traffic Diversions and Alternative Routes
To manage traffic during the partial closure, the government has issued a travel advisory:

  • Inbound Oshodi/Victoria Island (from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway/Toll Gate): Motorists will move freely until the bridge but will be diverted into one lane, 50 metres before the work zone, and return to full lanes after passing it.
  • For Oshodi-bound traffic: Drivers are advised to use the Ojota Slip Road to connect Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (by Taxi Park) and continue to Oshodi.
  • For Victoria Island-bound traffic: Motorists may take the Ojota Slip Road into Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony (via Town Planning Way), connect to Gbagada, and access the Third Mainland Bridge. Alternatively, they can continue along Ikorodu Road to Funsho Williams Avenue and take the Eko Bridge to the Island.
  • From Ikeja and environs (inbound Oshodi/Victoria Island): Drivers can take Maryland to access Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue, then connect via Eko Bridge to Outer Marina. Another option is linking Anthony (by Taxi Park) to access Oshodi directly.

Osiyemi assured residents that traffic management personnel would be deployed at strategic points to guide motorists and ensure smooth movement.

He appealed to members of the public for patience and cooperation during the maintenance work, emphasizing that the temporary discomfort was necessary for long-term safety and improved infrastructure.

The rehabilitation project is under the supervision of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, through its Office of Infrastructure.
