Port Harcourt, Rivers State — The Advocate for Good Governance in Nigeria (AFGIN) has conferred the prestigious Icon of Hope to Humanity Award on Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Julian Igbudu, the Divisional Police Officer of Rumuoji Division, Port Harcourt, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to public safety, professional integrity, and community trust.

The ceremony, held in Port Harcourt, was attended by dignitaries from security agencies, civil society, and community leadership. Dr. Monday Ojomah, AFGIN’s Director of Programmes, presented the award on behalf of Amb. Dr. Awalu Malik, the Executive Director of AFGIN.

In his remarks, Dr. Ojomah described CSP Igbudu as “a man whose courage, professionalism, and dedication to public safety have set a standard of excellence in law enforcement.”

Tracing his track record, Dr. Ojomah noted that as former Commander of the C4i Octopus Strike Force, Igbudu spearheaded intelligence-driven operations that significantly reduced violent crime in Port Harcourt. His tenure, Ojomah said, was marked by restoring public confidence in security agencies, fostering collaboration with local communities, and safeguarding vulnerable populations in high-risk areas.

“CSP Igbudu,” he declared, “is not just an officer of the law—he is a guardian of the people, a symbol of courage, and indeed, a true Icon of Hope to Humanity.”

CSP Igbudu’s Emotional Response

Visibly moved by the recognition, CSP Igbudu expressed gratitude to AFGIN and reaffirmed his dedication to service.

“I am deeply humbled by this honour. For me, policing is not merely a job—it is a calling to protect lives, uphold justice, and preserve peace. Every operation, every patrol, every intervention is about giving our communities the safety they deserve. This award will strengthen my resolve to serve with even greater dedication,” he said, his voice breaking with emotion.

He also dedicated the award to his colleagues in the police force “who risk their lives daily, often without recognition,” and to “the people whose trust makes effective policing possible.”

Goodwill Messages

There were goodwill messages from several stakeholders:

  • Chief (Mrs.) Esther Nwankwo, Chairperson of the Concerned Women for Better Nigeria (Rivers State Chapter), praised Igbudu’s “approachability and respect for human rights,” noting that “under his leadership, Rivers State communities have felt safer and more united.”
  • Mr. Samuel Edem, of the Rivers State Ministry of Justice, commended Igbudu’s “balance of firmness and fairness,” calling him “a model officer in a time when the image of the police needs rebuilding.”
  • Barr. Chinedu Okafor, human rights advocate, described the awardee as “proof that law enforcement can be both effective and humane,” urging other officers to emulate his style of policing.

AFGIN’s Commitment

Founded in November 2018, AFGIN has consistently promoted good governance, community safety, and the recognition of leaders whose work embodies integrity and tangible results. The organization pledged to continue supporting individuals and institutions that prioritize service above self and action over rhetoric.

The ceremony ended with resounding applause, as attendees stood to honour CSP Igbudu—a law enforcement leader whose career continues to inspire hope for a more secure and just Nigeria.
