In response to a disturbing wave of violence in Plateau State, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has denounced the recent spate of killings as “senseless” and “a grave assault on national peace and security.”
The IGP made these remarks during a visit to Plateau State on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where he met with community leaders and security operatives, gaining firsthand insight into the unfolding crisis. His visit followed a string of violent attacks that have left communities in mourning and sparked nationwide concern.
According to a statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, two suspects linked to the killings in Bokkos Local Government Area have been arrested and are currently assisting police with ongoing investigations.
In a decisive response to the crisis, IGP Egbetokun has tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, with spearheading all police operations in the troubled areas. DIG Yakubu has since conducted aerial surveillance missions over Bokkos and Bassa LGAs and is actively engaging with local stakeholders to rebuild trust and foster collaboration.
As part of the broader strategy to restore peace, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and tactical resources to Plateau State. The reinforcements will bolster rapid response operations, increase patrols in vulnerable communities, enhance intelligence-gathering capabilities, and serve as a deterrent against further attacks.
The Nigeria Police Force has also commenced strategic assessments on the ground to guide the effective deployment of resources.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to public safety, IGP Egbetokun called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. He urged the public to come forward with credible information that could support investigations and help bring perpetrators to justice.
In a show of compassion, the IGP extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and expressed solidarity with the people of Plateau State. “This is a deeply troubling time for our nation,” he said, “but we remain resolute in our commitment to restore peace, bring justice to the victims, and safeguard every Nigerian.”
The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its dedication to protecting lives and ensuring lasting peace across Plateau and beyond.
