As public calls grow louder for a special promotion for Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Julius Robinson, the Commander of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) of the Delta State Police Command, his team has recorded yet another significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against violent crime.
In a series of well-coordinated intelligence-led operations, the CP-SAT neutralized suspected kidnappers, arrested notorious armed robbers and cultists, and recovered an arsenal of deadly weapons along with a suspected stolen motorcycle. These achievements once again spotlight the professionalism and commitment of ASP Robinson and his team in securing Delta State.
Gun Battle on Ughelli–Patani Road: Three Suspected Kidnappers Fatally Wounded
On May 27, 2025, at approximately 11:35 p.m., operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team, led by ASP Julius Robinson, were on covert patrol along the Ughelli–Patani Road when they attempted to stop a suspicious shuttle bus near Ewhereni Junction. However, the occupants opened fire in an attempt to escape, sparking a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange, three of the suspects sustained critical gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital but were confirmed dead while receiving treatment. An AK-47 rifle loaded with eighteen rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the scene, while other suspects fled into the night. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
Major Arrests in Asaba: “Black Jesus” and Others in Police Net
In a separate operation on May 24, 2025, at about 8:45 a.m., the CP-SAT, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended a notorious suspect identified as Ifeanyi Okolie, alias “Black Jesus,” a 38-year-old native of Nsukwa in Aniocha South LGA, Delta State, residing in Okpanam, Asaba. Okolie is believed to be the mastermind of a robbery syndicate targeting motorcycles and other valuables across Asaba, Okpanam, Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and nearby areas.
During interrogation, the suspect led officers to a bush opposite the Okpanam City Gate, where three locally made guns, four live cartridges, and a suspected stolen Q-LINK motorcycle were recovered.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects:
- Ogochukwu Emmanuel (33), from Isu, Ebonyi State, residing in Okpanam;
- Joseph Egwu (42), from Ndibe, Afikpo LGA, Ebonyi State, residing in Okwe;
- Yakubu Yusuf (28), from Audu Bako Village, Kano State, residing at Abraka Market Area, Asaba—believed to be the syndicate’s receiver of stolen goods.
A follow-up search at the residence of a fugitive suspect known as “Nino” in Ibusa resulted in the recovery of a Beretta pistol loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend Nino.
